#31 Northern Pacific 1356 Maze
– Sitting idle for seventy years in Circle Square
in Missoula, Montana, this 4-6-0 steam engine is a hero. In the great
fires of 1910, it ferried hundreds from Northern Idaho to safety in
Montana. I was interested in the mechanical structure. The pipes,
rods and pistons were already maze-like. Creating a maze from them
was quite simple.
I'm considering making a maze from one of the giant 4-8-8-4 steam engines of the 1950s. From the photos, they look far more complicated and maze-like than this primitive specimen.
