#50 Craters of the Frozen Pond Maze
- Our Oregon winters are usually wetter than they are snowy. Standing water, though, is not immune to lower
temperatures and the last few weeks have more than enough cold weather. Down by the river, the temporary ponds froze,
but the river level dropped leaving shelves of ice free standing. This maze started with a photograph of a particularly
fascinating shelf of fractured ice that had all but vanished a day later.
I think this maze is interesting because it uses only one style of line drawing with no sharp angles. The
intestine-like curves echo a technique that I used as a child when drawing. It was particularly difficult to stay
strictly with this style at the same time as trying to reproduce the textures on the ice.
